About 4 1/2 hours before he was scheduled to appear onstage at The Basement, singer Howie Day tweeted that he had to cancel his show due to voice problems.

“I gave this really honest interview to a Ohio state paper, but we have to cancel tonight because my voice sounds s—,” Day said in a tweet.

“I hate canceling shows… See you around the bend…,” Day said in a tweet soon after his first.

In an interview with The Lantern, Day, best known for his 2004 single, “Collide,” expressed the meaning Wednesday’s show had for him.

“This show in Columbus is part of a transitional period between major label and getting back to what I actually care about, which is music.”

PromoWest, the company that owns The Basement, marked the show “Postponed” on its website.
