Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters perform at the 2012 Democratic National Convention September 2012. The band recently announced two new tour dates.

Fans have been waiting and hoping everlong for the latest Foo Fighters news that has finally become a reality: tour dates.

September 2012 was a dark time for many music lovers. The announcement of the Foo Fighters’ hiatus at the Global Citizen Festival was shocking, when frontman Dave Grohl said, “We don’t have any shows after this. This is where we play as many songs as we can in a short period of time, because, honestly, I don’t know when we’re gonna do it again.”

Bands fall apart for any reason under the sun, from money to girls to fame to simple boredom, but Grohl and his fellow rockers in the Foo Fighters always seemed exempt from that — until 2012 that is.

While the fans’ tears were still drying, there was a slight relief with the “Sound City” soundtrack, which featured Grohl and bandmates (along with a slew of other musical greats).

But the possibility of seeing one of rock’s greatest acts still wasn’t a possibility during the brief hiatus.

Tour dates are starting though, or really two dates that is. The Foo Fighters are scheduled to play Dec. 11 and Dec. 13 at Foro Sol stadium in Mexico City.

While dates outside of Mexico haven’t been announced, Ohio can hold onto hope that Grohl will wish to return to his home state for a few shows.

Guitarist Chris Shiflett gave hope to listeners back in August when he told “Rolling Stone” the group planned to reconvene and begin recording a new album after the new year, so really the tour dates were only a matter of time.

Granted, fans weren’t short of ways to hear new Grohl material from his directorial debut with “Sound City,” which released in January at the Sundance Film Festival, and his drumming in Queens of the Stone Age’s “…Like Clockwork” which released in June, but the whole Foo fighters package was still missing.

Keep your eyes peeled. Ohio could be welcoming back one of its greats.
