The Lantern Media Group was awarded 10 Society of Professional Journalists Region 4 awards among large college newspapers in Ohio, Michigan, West Virginia and western Pennsylvania.

The Lantern was awarded first place in breaking news reporting for written and video content covering E. Gordon Gee’s retirement and Mirror Lake Monday, respectively. It also won for in-depth reporting on Ohio State’s private contracts and won the general news category for coverage of OSU’s presidential search.

The Lantern finished as a finalist in the editorial writing, general column writing, feature photography and sports photography categories, while BuckeyeTV was a finalist for best all-around TV newscast and TV in-depth reporting.

First place entries are set to move onto the national competition, slated to be held in September.
