The Ohio State women’s basketball team has dismissed its second-leading scorer.

Senior guard Raven Ferguson, who averaged 10.8 points per game last season for the Buckeyes — second to only junior guard Ameryst Alston (19.0) — has been dismissed from the team by coach Kevin McGuff for a violation of team rules according to an OSU press release.

“I’ve enjoyed having the opportunity to coach Raven this past year,” McGuff said in the release. “And it’s unfortunate that we’re at this point, but due to a violation of team rules she can no longer be a part of our program. I wish her nothing but success as she moves forward as a basketball player and as a person.”

Ferguson earned honorable mention All-Big Ten last season with the Buckeyes starting two of her 32 games played. She scored a career-high 24 points in a 90-64 win over Illinois on Jan. 30.

Ferguson did not immediately respond to the The Lantern’s email request for comment.

The Buckeyes are scheduled to begin the 2014-15 season against Virginia in Charlottesville, Va,. on Nov. 14. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
