Just days after losing Stan Drayton to the Chicago Bears, Ohio State coach Urban Meyer has hired his new running backs coach, according to multiple reports.

Notre Dame running backs coach Tony Alford will be taking the same job in Columbus as was first reported by Football Scoop on Saturday.

Alford, a 1992 graduate of Colorado State, started his college coaching career at Mount Union as the running backs coach for the Purple Raiders before coaching the same position at Kent State, Iowa State, Washington, Iowa State and Louisville before moving on to South Bend, Ind.

In 2014, Alford was also named the Fighting Irish’s recruiting coordinator in addition to his duties as running backs coach.

The hiring of Alford comes just two days after Drayton left the Buckeye running backs coach job for the same position with the Bears.

Drayton bolted for the NFL just a day after the Buckeyes signed four-star running back Mike Weber out of Detroit Cass Tech High School.

OSU is scheduled to take on the the Virginia Tech Hokies Sept. 7 in Blacksburg, Va.
