A man was fatally shot near Ohio State’s campus early Wednesday morning.

Columbus Police were called to 2480 Summit Street around 1:37 a.m. There, they found Paul Gibson, 33, lying in the street in front of Jack’s Corner Pub, according to a Columbus Division of Police media release.

Gibson was unresponsive at the scene and was critically wounded as a result of a shooting, the release said. He was transported to the OSU Wexner Medical Center for treatment, but died at 3:15 a.m.

The Lantern was unable to confirm if Gibson was associated with OSU.

Further investigation from Columbus Police has found that Gibson appeared to be trying to calm an argument between two groups of people when he was shot, the release said.

Investigators have identified a person of interest and “charges may be forthcoming,” the release said.
