University Police responded with a dog and multiple squad cars to a report of a suspicious package on North Campus on Thursday, but it ended up being a false alarm.

“Moments ago, the Department of Public Safety received a call for a suspicious bag near Hitchcock Hall. University Police immediately responded and investigated but quickly determined there was not a threat,” said Dan Hedman, spokesman for Ohio State’s Office of Administration and Planning. “It ended up being an unattended bag.”

A police dog was seen sniffing mailboxes outside of nearby Bolz Hall, and a student said she was prevented from entering Bolz for a short period of time.

Hedman said students can report suspicious activity by calling University Police at 614-292-2121, or, in emergencies, by calling 911.
