Crime brief: Disorderly conduct reported twice in Ohio State parking garages

There were two incidents of disorderly conduct in parking garages this week. Both garages are located on South Campus near the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. The first incident occurred July 7, but was reported three days later. A hospital nurse was walking in the Neil Avenue Parking Garage when a middle-aged man blocked her way on the stairwell, according to a University Police report. She said the man complained about her driving and grabbed her name badge, which she pulled back on the lanyard holding it. The nurse said she threatened to call the police and the man left. Crime brief: Trespasser accused of feeding swine at Ohio State facility

July 9, 2014
Someone might have fed the pigs at Ohio State’s swine center without permission. A male staff member reported criminal trespassing after finding that there were buckets of feed on the ground at the swine facility on Kays Avenue in Dublin. He said an unauthorized person had fed the pigs sometime between the evening of June 29 and the next morning, according to a University Police report. Another employee met with an officer on July 1 at the horse facility, which is also in Dublin. Crime brief: Disorderly conduct reported outside police station

July 4, 2014
A woman reported disorderly conduct in the parking lot near the University Police station at Blankenship Hall. She said she was talking to her husband while she sat in her car on June 24 when another woman pulled into a spot next to the passenger side of her car. The first woman then reported that the second woman hit her passenger side car mirror when she opened the door to get out of her car, according to a University Police report. Crime brief: 4 assaults reported in a week

June 18, 2014
There were four assaults reported within the last week, three of which were at the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center or related branches. The first assault occurred June 5 at the Wexner Medical Center Emergency Department, but was reported June 10. A male nurse was kicked in the head and briefly lost consciousness in the assault, according to a University Police report. He was assigned to care for a patient who threatened him and was verbally abusive to the point of disrupting other patients. Crime brief: Fire reported at Scott Laboratory

June 11, 2014
When officials responded to an activated fire alarm, they found an evacuated building and a hallway full of smoke. Officers and firefighters arrived at Scott Laboratory on Saturday afternoon and a student told them he had been working on a project involving a vehicle engine. The engine had sparked and ignited nearby plywood, according to a University Police report. The Columbus Fire Department determined that the damage was contained to the charred plywood, according to the report. Crime brief: Breaking and entering reported at Ohio State building

June 4, 2014
A man not affiliated with Ohio State reported breaking and entering at the USDA Storage Building on West Case Road. The incident reportedly occurred sometime between May 22 and May 27 and was reported May 27. Stolen property included a copper “heat exchanger” and “metal and copper filings,” valued at $280 total, according to a University Police report. A male staff member reported criminal trespassing at Taylor Tower Saturday at about 1:30 a.m. An 18-year-old man was arrested in the incident. Crime brief: Disorderly conduct, assault, and concealed weapon reported at Wexner Medical Center

May 28, 2014
A nurse reported disorderly conduct after she refused to let a “high risk” patient leave the floor. The incident occurred Saturday at about 7:30 a.m. at Doan Hall, part of the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center located at 410 W. 10th Ave. The patient was not supposed to leave the floor because of his medical condition and treatment, according to a University Police report. The patient kept leaving anyway and the nurse tried to convince him to stay close because of the severity of his medical condition. Crime Brief: Criminal damaging reported near Ohio State Wexner Medical Center

A female staff member reported criminal damaging after she found pry marks on the driver’s side of her car Monday. She told police she had parked her car in a parking lot on 12th Avenue and Cannon Drive near the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center at about 3 p.m. Monday. When she returned at about midnight, she found her driver’s side door damaged with pry marks below the keyhole and near the top of the door, according to a University Police report. Crime Brief: Fire, trespassing reported on Ohio State’s campus

April 30, 2014
A fire was reported Friday at the 12th Avenue Parking Garage at about 6:30 p.m. A vehicle caught fire after an electrical short in the steering column, according to a University Police report. The owner said he smelled a burning smell coming from his vehicle before he saw sparks. Wexner Medical Center hospital security officers used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire. A 59-year-old man not affiliated with OSU was arrested for trespassing at North Commons at about 1:45 a.m. Sunday. There were four reports of disorderly conduct from April 16 through Tuesday. Crime Brief: Ohio State roommates’ fight spurs assault report

April 17, 2014
Jamie Goble, a 43-year-old employee of the Wexner Medical Center, was arrested for stealing from Doan Hall, where he works, Saturday at about 7:45 a.m. Property related to the event was listed as confidential and not shown on a University Police report. However, 10TV reported Monday Goble was accused of stealing 17 boxes of medical supplies worth more than $21,000, in addition to earlier in the month being seen on camera removing more than $27,000 worth of surgical staplers from a supply room.
