Former Buckeyes work to impress NFL scouts, general managers at Ohio State football Pro Day

For 16 former Ohio State football players, a lifelong dream is one step closer. OSU held its Pro Day at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center Friday, as a last chance for some players to show NFL scouts that they deserved to be selected in the upcoming NFL Draft. A group of former Ohio State Buckeyes are set to showcase their talents in front of NFL scouts with dreams of getting selected in the 2014 Draft. A total of six Buckeyes — senior running back Carlos Hyde, senior wide receiver Corey “Philly” Brown, a pair of redshirt-senior offensive linemen, center Corey Linsley and left tackle Jack Mewhort, junior linebacker Ryan Shazier and redshirt-junior cornerback Bradley Roby — are scheduled to compete in the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis from Saturday through Feb. 25, according to a press release. Ohio State junior linebacker Ryan Shazier to enter 2014 NFL Draft

Ohio State junior linebacker Ryan Shazier has decided to forgo his senior season and declare for the NFL Draft. “Playing in the NFL is something that I have been dreaming about since my days in pee-wee football,” Shazier said in a press release Saturday. “I just feel that now is the perfect time for me.” Shazier, who led the Big Ten in tackles with 144 in 2013, finished third in the country in tackles and tied for second in tackles for loss. FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Senior safety Christian Bryant readied himself on the field, scarlet Buckeye fans erupting in cheers around him Sept. 28, 2013. Instead of taking down intended target, Wisconsin running back James White, Bryant took a hit from teammate sophomore Joshua Perry resulting in a broken ankle. More than 1 change needed to fix Ohio State pass defense struggles

Ohio State’s pass defense in recent years is not exactly where Buckeye Nation is used to seeing it. In the final three seasons before coach Urban Meyer’s arrival in 2012, OSU’s defensive numbers in the passing game were among the best in the country. In 2009, the Buckeyes ranked 13th in the nation in pass yards per game given up (171.5 yards), were eighth in 2010 (165.5 yards) and were even 14th nationally during a 6-7 season (182 yards) in 2011. Ryan Shazier, Jack Mewhort, Carlos Hyde named AP All-Americans

Three Ohio State Buckeyes have been named AP All-Americans. A day after being named All-Americans by ESPN.com, junior linebacker Ryan Shazier and redshirt-senior left tackle Jack Mewhort were named to the AP All-American Team. Teammate and senior running back Carlos Hyde also earned honors. Shazier was named to the first team after leading the Big Ten with 134 total tackles to go with 22.5 tackles for loss and four forced fumbles. He was also named first team All-Big Ten by both the coaches and media.
