Hit the bong and live a satisfying and enlightened life? Get high and have great sex?Stephen Gaskin’s book, “Cannabis Spirituality,” takes a look at how people can live fuller lives, better family communications and improve their sex lives with the help of religion, enlightenment, and maybe a joint here and there. The book breaks down into chapters addressing religion, the ritual of getting high, communication and vibes, stoned sex, living a natural life and talking to kids about weed.Gaskin presents a truly intriguing discussion of religion before he broaches the subject of marijuana use. He describes religion as “a generic term for how we relate to our universe and how God and our universe relate to us.” He proves his point by expatiating on several different religions and the common theme of enlightenment he finds among them. On the subject of grass, Gaskin can’t say enough good things about it.According to the book people can achieve amazing clarity of thought, communicate more clearly, and have some of the most intense sexual experiences they will ever have–all courtesy of a little quality ganja.Gaskin claims that getting high prevents people from viewing sex as an activity devoted to procreation and viewing members of the opposite sex as “breeding stock.” He feels smoking up cuts down on jealousy and competition and also destroys the battle of the sexes. Stoned sex is healthy and loving sex.If Gaskin is right, smoke a bowl and enjoy some good loving. The book does not by any stretch of the imagination advocate the use of marijuana by minors. In fact, an entire chapter is dedicated to reasons why children should not smoke weed. However, Gaskin has the right idea in suggesting that parents not insult the intelligence of children by lying to them, but educate them with the truth about cannabis and any other topics.Gaskin’s views on the legal issues surrounding marijuana are summed up in the last chapter of the book. He issues a scathing attack on lawmakers, likening marijuana smokers and Newt Gingrich to the Red Scare and Joseph McCarthy.Gaskin is one of the original founders of the Farm, a commune in Summertown, Tenn. He has written ten other books on cannabis and his extensive hippy experiences.
