The owners of Papa Joe’s, the popular High Street bar that was destroyed by a fire last spring, are exploring other sites for rebuilding because a lease agreement at the old site has not been reached, according to management.Papa Joe’s management is working with architects to finalize plans and sign a lease for land, said Joe Bowers, owner of the bar.Bowers said he was 90 percent sure that the bar will be rebuilt and include a new format.Papa Joe’s may become more of a deli restaurant than a bar in the afternoons and early evenings, Bowers said.’Students have to have a place to go,’ Bowers said. ‘I think they should have a decent place to go.’Papa Joe’s particulars, such as drink specials, cover charge prices and the age restriction are not going to be revealed by management until opening day, Bowers said. A completion date for the bar depends on when the lease is signed and weather conditions that would affect the building process, Bowers said.’Papa Joes was viewed as a positive to the community,’ said Terry Foegler, president of Campus Partners, an organization dedicated to revitalization the campus area.Papa Joe’s, formerly located at 1573 N. High St., was a historical mark on High Street and is appropriate business for the community, said Joe Williams, director of real estate for Campus Partners. The popularity of Papa Joes extends past the Columbus area, Bowers said. Last fall during kegs and eggs at Papa Joes, a breakfast tailgate party for the Notre Dame game, a Florida radio station called the bar at 6:30 a.m. and Ohio State students sang the fight song to the station, he said.
