Listen and watch as the international sensation “STOMP” takes over the stage with dynamic rhythms in a one-of-a-kind performance at the Palace Theatre. Co-presented by the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts (CAPA), the Fifth Third Bank Broadway Series, and the Wexner Center for the Arts, “STOMP” entertains audiences by demonstrating a unique combination of percussion, movement and visual comedy. The name STOMP referes to both the show and the dance troupe.”The show has developed out of a collaboration of ideas,” said Marcia Thompson, a two-year performer with STOMP. Performers in STOMP do not use ordinary and traditional music instruments, but show their talents by using tools such as match boxes, tea chests, plastic bags, boots and hub caps to make their music flow.”After seeing the show it inspires you to start pounding and beating on things making your own tunes,” said John Bateman an associate of CAPA, “I have seen the show 14 or 15 times in the last three years and I am amazed to see how the dance is expressed and interpreted depending on which dancers are performing.” Created in Brighton, U.K. in 1991 by Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas, “STOMP” is a result of a 10-year collaboration between the two artists. The style of “STOMP” was developed over these years by playing in rock clubs, underground cabarets and “fringe” festivals.”Most anyone can relate to the music because it comes out of everyday life,” said Miles Crawford, the youngest performer of STOMP, “It has a catchy beat that just draws you in.””The beauty of ‘STOMP’ is its cross-over appeal,” said CAPA senior vice president Rosa Stolz in a press release. “Young audiences respond to STOMP’s pulsating rhythms and hip attitude, while older audiences delight in its unabashed energy and neo-vaudeville style. Patrons keep returning year after year because STOMP delivers a truly captivating entertainment experience.”The ensemble has been seen is award-winning commercials for Coca-Cola and Target Stores and has performed for nationally televised shows including the 1996 Academy Awards broadcast.
