Classes have started once again and so begins the frustration of parking. With many of the stadium parking spaces unavailable, faculty, staff and students must look for alternative places to park. The June 1 opening of the new Tuttle Park Place Garage will help alleviate some of the headaches. The garage is located in the northwest campus area off Tuttle Park Place, beside the Central Classroom Building. The first four floors of the garage are open and the top two are expected to open near the end of June.”When it is fully open the garage will be able to hold 958 cars,” said Sarah Blouch, director of Transportation and Parking Services. The garage is available for parking anytime and charges are based on an hourly rate for those without A or B passes, according to Blouch. Overnight parking, which is a car parked for more than 24 hours, is not allowed.”Next year we plan to have a limited number of C garage passes as well as the hourly parking rate,” Blouch said. The garage may help alleviate parking congestion worsened by two other construction sites nearby. Several hundred spaces at the stadium will be lost to renovations, in addition to those already closed. The Northwest Garage also closed June 1 for repairs and should reopen by Sept. 11.In addition to parking, retail areas will be added to the new garage and are scheduled for completion in September.
