“Going Corporate” is an independent film shot in Columbus dealing with one of the toughest parts of business, mergers and acquisitions.

The film, directed by Kevin Carr, follows the struggles of an Ohio-based technology company, PC Point, as it is acquired by GlobalComm. The comedy follows the office staffs of PC Point and GlobalComm as they deal with the merger and themselves.

“‘Going Corporate’ isn’t the same as going postal,” Carr said, “but it is similar.”

The ideas of the movie were pulled from stories from corporate America and takes a satirical look at conference calls, staff meetings, team building activities and other office topics.

Throughout this year the film made its rounds at film festivals around the country and has received positive reviews.

Todd Hill, Film and Theater Critic for The Staten Island Advance said, “The writing is stellar throughout, with some performances and snippets of dialogue and wacky situations that are markedly rich, that in fact stayed with me into the next day and had me laughing. I don’t get that from most big-budget films I see.”

The film, released by Guerilla Gecko Productions, has found a purpose other than to make people laugh. Joan Zito, professor of business at the Ossowa Business School, watched the film at the East Lansing Film Festival and said the film was relevant to the human issues employees of large corporations face everyday. Zitothen arranged to show the film at her management seminar.

Not only have critics and the business world weighed in on the movie, but other filmmakers have as well. Steve Austin, director of the award-winning “Moment of Silence,” said, “The cast was great, and each character was fresh and funny.” Austin said he hadn’t laughed that hard since “Best in Show.”
