I am writing in response to Dave O’Neil’s column printed in Wednesday’s Lantern. I find it shocking that the Lantern wasted its space on a column which offered nothing worthwhile.

The article, while absurdly and blatantly derogatory toward women, did not even accomplish its task of being minimally amusing. Dave can wish to be a blowpop while he is having a beer with friends, but I find it inappropriate to publish his sexual fantasy in a campus newspaper. In reply to Dave’s statement, “I simply wish the girls that have a lot of skin wouldn’t show so much of it,” I respond, I simply wish a guy who has a lot of ignorance wouldn’t show so much of it, especially in a public forum that represents the whole university. Besides making me sick, this article made me ashamed to be a Buckeye, it made me ashamed of who I would be associated with and it made me ashamed that prospective and new students would read this as acceptable and condoned opinions on intelligent university women.

With the entrance of the best-ever freshman class, I hope there will be more girls who won’t be shaping up for the eyes of any boy but shaping up for their own self-worth and ambition. I sincerely hope that the Lantern, for its own reputation’s sake will reconsider printing articles written in such poor taste.
