One of the men charged in the Dec. 22 death of 26-year-old Ohio State student Christopher “Gersh” Gerspacher pleaded guilty Friday to conspiracy to commit murder.

Michael Roskuski, 34, of Delaware, Ohio, entered the plea in front of Judge Everett H. Krueger in the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas and will testify against Eric “Poppie” Spar and Patrick Brunty who are also being charged in connection with Gerspacher’s murder.

Spar, 29, of Columbus, and Brunty, 37, of Orient, Ohio, both face the death penalty.

According to local media, Roskuski said he provided a gun to Spar knowing it might be used in a robbery or shooting.

“(Spar) told me some drug dealer ripped him off,” Roskuski said in reports. “He wanted to use the gun to get his money back. If he put up resistance, he might have to shoot him.”

Roskuski said he did not know anyone would be killed.

“I did not expect a murder to happen and would like to say I’m very sorry the Gerspachers lost their son,” he said in local reports.

According to local media, Roskuski said he gave the gun to Spar on Dec. 22. Gerspacher, a senior in history, was reported missing from his Alden Avenue apartment on that day.

Officials said Gerspacher was abducted from his apartment and shot in the head in a wooded area near the north end of Alum Creek Reservoir in Delaware County that same day. His body was found on Jan. 29 in a ravine near North Old State Road in Delaware.

Officials have not found the .32 caliber pistol thought to be used in the killing, and Dane Gaschen, first assistant prosecutor for Delaware County, would not say who pulled the trigger, although both Spar and Brunty may face the death penalty.

“It does not matter who pulled the trigger. Both are equally liable even if one was just standing there while the other pulled the trigger,” Gaschen said.

Roskuski was being charged with aggravated murder, two counts of conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and complicity to commit aggravated robbery, Gaschen said.

“He was facing life in prison with parole after 20 years,” Gaschen said.

In a plea agreement Friday, Roskuski will now face up to 10 years for the conspiracy charge and a mandatory three years for a firearm specification, Gaschen said. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 18.

Brunty is charged with one count of aggravated murder, two counts of conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and aggravated robbery. His trial is scheduled at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 7 in Krueger’s courtroom.

Spar is charged with two counts of aggravated murder, two counts of conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and aggravated robbery. He is expected to stand trial Nov. 4, also in Krueger’s court.
