I am writing this letter in response to a half-page ad that was printed by The Lantern on Feb. 24, which was paid for by campustruth.org.

The ad’s sole purpose was to spew pro-Israeli rhetoric aimed at dehumanizing the Palestinians by painting a one-sided picture of an extremely complex issue. Simply put, it was propaganda at its worst.

The ad completely trivializes the Israeli and Palestinian conflict, neglecting to mention that the vast majority of deaths in the region are caused by Israel against Palestinian civilians — not the other way around.

It does not mention Israel’s 35-year-old continuing military occupation, systematic land confiscation, house demolition, humiliation and consistent denial of the basic human rights of the Palestinian people — and I could go on and on.

The Web site’s creators have deliberately kept out of the equation exactly what they claim to be striving for — the truth. I am repulsed by advertisements like these because the value of a human life should not be sold in a newspaper, as if it were a used car.

If they claim to be seeking the truth, then let the truth be heard in its entirety. This just shows that if you have enough dough, you can sell any idea, and sadly, newspapers like our very own Lantern will eat it up.
