Love. This four-letter word is one of the most powerful in the English language. It is also one of the most widely used. Unfortunately, most people use the word without actually knowing what it means.
We all tell our parents and other members of our family that we love them. We tell our friends that we love them. We say that we love certain foods or TV shows. We see a shirt in the mall that we like and instantly we say, “I love this shirt!”
These types of love are not where we lose focus of what the word means.
How many times have you told people that you love them and not really meant it, or told others you love them because you thought you did?
This column is dedicated to all the guys who think they’ve been “in” love, all the guys who think they are “players” and to all of the guys who think that love doesn’t exist.
Pay attention, you just might learn something.
Love is more than a word.
Love allows you to be taken into a world that you thought didn’t exist. A place previously reserved for dreams.
Love lets you see sides of yourself that have been hidden all of your life.
Love will inspire you to do things you thought you would never do: Writing letters, planning surprises, talking on the phone until the sun comes up and going out of your way to please someone other than yourself.
Love is completely vulnerable.
Love is the purest experience a person can have.
Without knowing it, a person will find themselves floating. They’re happier, see the world a little differently, and walk around with a smile on their faces. They know something is different.
Maybe you notice the way her face lights up when she sees you, or maybe you notice your heart beating just a bit faster whenever she’s around. You’ve grown out of the worrisome stage and into a stage of confidence.
That’s because love is trust.
Love is not wanting to leave when it’s time to go. Love is doing everything you can to spend one extra minute in her arms, on the phone, or thinking about what she wants.
Love is a promise that you will be there for one another, that you won’t have to hurt any longer, and that you will always have a listener.
Love is like a song that you don’t want to end. Love is a blank canvas for you to begin painting memories on. Love is precious.
When you are in love anything is possible, nothing is out of reach, and little things mean the world to you.
When you are in love you take nothing for granted.
When you are in love your senses become enhanced. Her perfume smells that much sweeter, her skin feels that much softer, she’s more beautiful than ever, her voice sounds like an angel and her kisses taste like candy.
When you are in love, right before your eyes you will have everything you want, everything you need, and everything you’ve ever dreamed of.
When you are in love you want to share new experiences. Words coming out of your mouth are replaced by promises that can never be broken, and your heart no longer belongs to you.
Love is a free pass to act silly, watch movies all day, make animal noises, not shave or fix your hair, not get dressed up, and not worry about having anything to do because you’ve got each other.
Love is not a game and should not be treated like one. Love is a privilege not to be abused.
For those who read this and know exactly what I mean, hold the person next to you a little closer today and let them know how much they mean to you. You are the lucky ones.
For those who think you know what I mean, read it again.
And for those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about, be patient, you will someday.
