A domestic violence call to the Columbus Division of Police resulted in a solitary showdown between an armed female and S.W.A.T team officers.
An unidentified female led a nearly two-hour long standoff with police, while holed up in her residence at 64 W. Duncan St.
Police established contact with the woman shortly after a 9 p.m. 911 call. Possible reports of shots fired, verified by a neighborhood resident, may have led to a police decision to barricade a two block radius surrounding the house. Police not only shut down the two blocks, but they also shut down power to the street lights and the house where the woman was held up.
“This isn’t television,” said a neighbor who wished to remain anonymous. “This is a terrible spectacle. She literally just moved in, then we have shots and everyone has to be evacuated.”
S.W.A.T negotiaters were speaking with the woman from the beginning, said Columbus officer Bob Schons. The incident began at 9 p.m. with the domestic violence call from the residence and ended shortly before 11 p.m. with a police radio transmission cryptically announcing, “We’ve got her; we’re coming out.”
Other neighborhood residents were equally mystified by the night’s events.
“I’m not really sure what’s happening; all I know is there’s some crazy lady with a shotgun,” said Vladimir Komarov, an OSU civil engineering major.
Police took the woman to an area mental health facility.
