The Original Steubenville Pizza Co. became a hit on the Ohio State campus when it opened in January.

Located at 20 E. 13th Ave., owner Ryan Constantini said he felt OSU’s campus was lacking a special kind of pizza that is native to the Ohio Valley.

The difference is the way the pizza is made, Constantini said.

“Everything is homemade every morning,” he said. “Also, the toppings are placed on cold after the sauce.”

Original Steubenville Pizza Co. employee Lauren Vogel said there are other things that make their pizza unique too.

“It’s real pizza,” said Vogel, who has been working at the pizza place since its opening. “We even grate the cheese ourselves.”

“And we’re cheap,” Constantini said.

Constantini said he believes being close to OSU is a major advantage for his restaurant.

“Business is very good,” said Constantini. “We’ve been increasing every month since we opened.”

Originally from the Ohio Valley himself, customer John Paree said he is glad that there is now a place in Columbus where he can get the pizza that he grew up loving.

“A lot of us in Columbus make a special trip to come down (for this pizza),” Paree said.

Constantini said that he has plans for growth, but because of zoning laws he is unable to expand the inside of the restaurant.

“(We are) looking into adding a patio to the current location, as well opening a second location that would have a dining area,” Constantini said.

Also, Constantini said he plans to add more products to the menu and start a delivery service.

“I would love to expand and take it as far as I can,” Constantini said. “This was just a test shop to see if people who never had this kind of pizza would like it.”
