Hopkins Hall

A female student was stuck in an elevator all night in Hopkins Hall. She had a nervous breakdown and wrote all over the walls of the elevator. After she graduated she died in a car accident. It is said that people still find notes or scratching in the Hopkins Hall elevator that say “I’m still mad at OSU for what they did to me.”

Bricker Hall

Bricker Hall is the final resting ground for Board of Trustees member Herbert Atkinson. The ashes of Atkinson, who died in the 1950s, are in a wall of the building behind a plaque. There are reports of people seeing lights flashing and Atkinson drinking punch in the lobby.

Orton Hall

Edward Orton, OSU’s first president who served from 1873 through 1881, supposedly never left Orton Hall. Legend says the flickering of his oil lamp in the top tower room – his favorite reading spot – can be seen from outside. Scorch marks are still on the inside ceiling of the room, left by his oil lamp. There are also stories about chills in the air and noises.

Oxley Hall

Oxley Hall, the first women’s residence hall, houses offices now but also the ghost of a female student who committed suicide years ago. Screams can be heard on Dec. 17, the day of her death. There have also been reports of other sights and sounds on other days.

Canfield Hall

A student who lived in Canfield Hall said strange things happened to her when she lived there in 1998 on the top floor. Her roommate’s Bible disappearing, strange scratchings in a pipe above her bed and loud footsteps in her room late at night were just the beginning of this haunting residence hall. A visiting friend ran out of the room saying “It was evil” and another girl said she saw a ghost in the bathroom.

Phi Gamma Delta

This fraternity house used to be home to the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and still echoes with the ghost of a sorority member who committed suicide. She can be seen roaming the halls, looking out windows and in mirrors. Chandeliers are also reported as shaking for no reason.
