The continuing saga of Brian Shaffer, the missing OSU medical student, took a strange turn last night when someone broke into his apartment on King Avenue.

“Somebody kicked in his door at 2 a.m., and (police) called me at three in the morning,” said Alexis Waggoner, Shaffer’s girlfriend.

Waggoner said the burglars stole a TV and a couple of DVDs.

A Columbus Division of Police spokeswoman said that at this point, there is no evidence that Shaffer’s apartment was sought out by the burglars.

“We don’t believe he was targeted because he was missing, we just think it was a coincidence,” she said.

Supporting this theory was the fact that other apartments in the King Avenue apartment building were broken into.

“They (burglars) kicked in the door of the next door neighbor,” Waggoner said.

Shaffer went missing on April 2. He was last seen in front of the Ugly Tuna Saloona in the South Campus Gateway.

Since then police have been unable to locate Shaffer. He has not made any attempt to contact anyone.

The reward for any information leading to Shaffer’s whereabouts has been increased from $25,200 to $100,000 until May 17.

Shaffer, 27, is 6-feet-2 inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds. There is a tattoo of the Pearl Jam symbol on his right arm. Any information should be reported to the Columbus Division of Police Special Victims Bureau at 614-645-4670.
