An elementary school cheerleading practice nearly turned violent on Thursday when a mother came to practice and threatened the coach with a baseball bat.
According to reports, an argument broke out among cheerleaders around 8 p.m. Thursday at Weinland Elementary School on East Seventh Avenue. Shortly after one of the cheerleaders went home early, her mother arrived at the practice with a baseball bat and began yelling at the 26-year-old coach and swinging the bat near her.
Other parents nearby broke up the fight and the cheerleader’s mother left. The coach told police that both the mother and her daughter have created trouble at prior practices. No charges were filed in the case.
Student struck in head with brick while breaking up fight
An Ohio State student was treated at a hospital after he was struck in the head with a brick near campus early Saturday morning.
According to reports, the 23-year-old student was breaking up a fight near Neil and Maynard avenues when someone threw a brick at his head, causing a severe cut.
He was treated at Riverside Hospital and remained in stable condition. There are no suspects in the aggravated assault.
Man arrested driving car that was left running, unlocked
Police arrested a Columbus resident early Friday morning after they discovered him driving a car that had been stolen minutes earlier.
Charles D. Harvison, 43, of East 15th Avenue, was arrested at 1:52 a.m., minutes after a 32-year-old man reported that his car had been stolen from 1960 Summit St. The victim said the car was unlocked and the motor was running when it was stolen.
$10,000 in cash stolen from unlocked car
A 29-year-old man reported that someone stole more than $9,000 in cash from his unlocked car Thursday morning.
The car was on the first block of West Maynard Avenue between 8 and 8:15 a.m. When the man returned to his car, he discovered that someone had stole $9,762 in cash, a backpack and a laptop computer. He says the car was unlocked during the theft.
Man allegedly hit officer after bar altercation
A 23-year-old man was arrested at Little Bar on High Street after allegedly punching a female police officer Saturday night.
Police arrested Kevin Springer, of Dublin, after security at the bar removed him for creating a disturbance. While he was being removed, he allegedly swung at a 44-year-old female officer.
Springer has been charged with disorderly conduct and assault.
