On the second Friday in December, finals will be over and many students will be looking to celebrate. One alternative to partying on campus will be square dancing at the Bucks and Does Western Square Dancing Club’s Pizza and Dance Party.

The public is encouraged to attended, and it only costs $3, pizza included.

Pizza and Dance Night “is designed for the non-dancer,” said Sue Williams, the president of Bucks and Does. “You will get basic instruction and there is some line dancing and rock ‘n’ roll.”

There will also be an unofficial DJ, Larry Dulin, to coordinate the music.
“We’ll be sure to do one high-level dance to show people what [square dancing] is like,” Williams said. “People don’t realize how much exercise square dancing can be.”

The premise of Bucks and Does Club is to provide a social activity anyone can enjoy.

“You can’t square dance by yourself,” Williams said. “It is really easy to meet new people in a square with eight other people.”

Lynn Lemaster said square dancing is friendship set to music. Lemaster has been dancing with Bucks and Does for five years.

Lemaster’s hobby led her to meet her current boyfriend of three and a half years, Tim Hellinger, at a Bucks and Does event.

Square Dancing “is as much as you want to get out of it,” she said. “It’s a fun thing, a social thing and you can work up a sweat.”

Bucks and Does has 75 members and is primarily a singles organization, but married couples and children are encouraged to attend.

Pizza and Dance Night is meant for people who want to give square dancing a try. It will be held at St. Luke’s Church Friday night from 6 to 10 p.m.

Bucks and Does belongs to The Central Ohio Corporation of Dance Clubs and Single Square Dancers USA.
