A thief stole a carton of cigarettes from the Exxon gas station at Neil and Lane avenues Tuesday night, but left his state identification with the clerk.

According to police reports, the man entered the store at 9:20 p.m. and asked for a carton of Camel Lights. When the clerk put the carton on the counter and took the man’s identification, he grabbed the carton and ran out of the store. He got into the passenger side of a car waiting for him outside, which left northbound with its lights off.

Police collected the identification as evidence and there is also security footage of the thief, but no one has been arrested yet.

Three cars left with slashed tires

Someone slashed a tire on three cars parked behind a West Blake Avenue house Monday afternoon. The three victims said they don’t know why someone would have committed the crime, which cost an estimated $225 in damage.

Man’s house burglarized while workers repair home

A 49-year-old living on the 1800 block of North Fourth Street reported that someone burglarized his home while he was out of the house between Monday and Tuesday afternoon. The man told police he knew maintenance crews would be working on the house, but when he returned a window was boarded up and television, computer, DVD player and modem had all been stolen. The man says he could not get a hold of maintenance workers who had been in the house to find out what happened. The stolen items are valued at $885.
