The Ohio State men’s soccer team lost its first exhibition game of the season to West Virginia by a score of 1-0.
Mountaineer junior forward Andy Bevin recorded the lone goal in the match, scoring on a free kick in the 75th minute that bounced off an OSU defender.
OSU junior forward Kenny Cunningham had the best chance of scoring for the Buckeyes, but his shot in the opening minutes of the second half hit off the crossbar.
WVU outshot the Buckeyes 14-6 in the contest, led by Bevin’s four. OSU junior goalkeeper Alex Ivanov recorded three saves in the game and was the only Buckeye to play the full 90 minutes.
A total of 17 players on OSU’s roster saw action Sunday, including eight freshmen.
OSU is scheduled to play another exhibition game against Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne on Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. in Columbus before finishing its preseason schedule Aug. 26 at Notre Dame.
