The saying goes, “If you’ve got it, flaunt it,” and that is exactly what Kim Kardashian has made a “career” of doing.
She is the cover girl of Paper magazine’s latest issue, where she nearly bares all. The headline reads, “Break The Internet,” and that is obviously what Kardashian sought to do.
There are two covers total. On the first, Kardashian is bent over in a long gown and holding a champagne bottle with her hands. The bottle has exploded open and is magically landing over her head into a glass, which is rested on her butt.
On the second cover, Kardashian is holding her dress below her bare butt with her back facing the camera. This is the cover that has become a trend worldwide.
The second cover has prompted the hashtags #BreakTheInternet and #WhosKimKardashian. There have also been many memes created in response. Chelsea Handler has even posted her own version of Kardashian’s cover on Instagram.
Interestingly, the cover was a creation of Jean-Paul Goude’s “Carolina Beaumont, New York, 1976.” Goude is a French artist that rose to prominence in the ’60s and ’70s as the art director for Esquire magazine. He was known for being a master at retouching images before the invention of computers.
This cover has already created many discussions and has even made the news.
However, the cover should be no surprise. Kardashian rose to fame after her sex tape with former boyfriend — R&B singer Ray J, whose real name is William Ray Norwood Jr. — released in 2007. Since then, she has continued to flaunt the very thing her career is based off of: her body.
A couple of months ago, Kardashian posed nude on the cover of British GQ for its October issue. In 2010, she appeared in W Magazine, completely nude and covered in metallic body paint. She also posed nude in Playboy in 2007.
Beauty is the business that Kardashian is in. Therefore, her body is her moneymaker. I find it troubling that multi-millionaire Kardashian feels she still has to pose nude and objectify herself.
Don’t get me wrong, though — I am not suggesting that a person can’t be sexually liberated.
But after putting yourself on display for the world, what does that leave for you? There is nothing wrong with one loving his or her body, but there are other ways to do so.
This shoot could have made news for paying tribute to Goude’s work, but her butt has overshadowed this.
Quite frankly, I don’t think that Kardashian loves herself. She has repeatedly altered her appearance, including her derrière. It seems as though she needs the world to be talking about her to feel good about herself. She is constantly creating public “shock” by her appearances and social media posts.
With that said, Kardashian has a child of her own and is also married, so I think it’s sad that she is pimping herself. Kardashian has given the world another reason as to why she should not be taken serious, which is unfortunate because behind all of the smoke and mirrors, she is a businesswoman.
