Ohio State Mansfield student Skylar Williams was identified as a victim in a shooting in Kentucky on Tuesday, a day after she was reported as being abducted from the Mansfield campus.

Williams was reported to have been forcibly abducted by suspect Ty’rell Pounds on Monday. Pounds was also identified as one of the dead in Kentucky.

“Our Ohio State community suffered a tragic loss with the death of Mansfield student Skylar Williams,” Ohio State President Michael Drake said in a statement Tuesday. “This senseless and shocking incident has left our campus shaken. We join Mansfield Dean Norman Jones in expressing our condolences and deepest sympathies. Our thoughts and prayers are with Skylar’s family.”

According to a university release, at approximately 11:45 a.m. Monday, Pounds approached Williams in a campus parking lot and forced Williams into his vehicle after displaying a handgun.

A vehicle was later identified by Kentucky State Troopers as closely matching the description of the one involved in the Mansfield abduction and stopped after a short pursuit in Oldham County, Kentucky.

After hearing a gunshot from within the vehicle a state trooper shot and killed Pounds. At some point during the encounter Williams was struck by a bullet, according to a press release from Kentucky State Police.
