Ohio State men’s soccer ended in a scoreless tie against Northwestern Saturday after 110 minutes of play in Evanston, Illinois.
The tie halted a two-game losing streak for the Buckeyes (5-3-1, 0-1-1 Big Ten), while it was Northwestern’s (5-3-1, 1-0-1 Big Ten) second consecutive overtime game.
Both teams placed shots on goal in overtime but neither could close out the contest. Ohio State senior goalkeeper Parker Siegfried denied a Northwestern strike in the 94th minute, while Northwestern freshman goalkeeper Miha Miskovic kept out senior midfielder Jack Holland’s attempt in the 104th minute.
Redshirt sophomore Xavier Green had the first serious chance for the Buckeyes, with his 4th-minute strike nearly putting Ohio State on the board.
Green missed another shot at the 30-minute mark, and his attempts accounted for two of seven shots for the Buckeyes. Northwestern mustered 11, putting three on net.
The defensive struggle continued into the second half for both teams. Ohio State successfully defended six Wildcat corner chances, including two around the 55th minute.
Miskovic made another save for Northwestern on a 72nd-minute on-goal header from Ohio State sophomore forward Luke Kiley.
Ohio State returns home Wednesday for a 7 p.m. matchup with Michigan at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
