Ohio State men’s basketball will be short-handed Saturday against Indiana, as freshman guard D.J. Carton will miss the game to deal with personal matters.
The team announced Carton’s absence for Saturday’s game in a press release Thursday, and shortly after the announcement, Carton posted a message on social media that said he’s been “suffering with mental health issues for a couple years.”

Carton said he will be temporarily stepping away from the program, and neither he nor Ohio State’s release specified a timetable for his return.
“D.J. remains a valued member of our program and we will continue to love and support him. Please respect the family’s privacy in this matter,” Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann said in a statement.
Carton is third-leading scorer on the Buckeyes, averaging 10. 4 points per game, and was the No. 31 prospect in the 2019 recruiting class.
The Buckeyes tip off against Indiana at noon Saturday at the Schottenstein Center.
