Junior right-handed pitcher Ethan Hammerberg was selected No. 611 overall by the Chicago White Sox in the 2022 MLB Draft Tuesday.

Hammerberg’s 20th-round selection rounded out the four Buckeyes drafted as bullpen mate TJ Brock was taken in the sixth round, shortstop Zach Dezenzo in the 12th and right-handed pitcher Nate Karaffa just nine picks prior in the 20th.

The Upper Arlington native entered 2022 with just nine collegiate innings under his belt but was named to the Big Ten Preseason Honors List Feb. 17.

Hammerberg was a mainstay in the back end of the Buckeyes’ bullpen last season, sporting a mid-90-mph fastball and an above-average curveball that propelled him to 49 strikeouts in 35 2/3 innings.

The right-hander’s deadline to sign a contract is Aug. 1.
