Celebrations for the 2002 national championship team and 100-year anniversary of Ohio Stadium will headline game themes for home football contests in September and October, Ohio State announced this week.
As if the home opener against Notre Dame couldn’t be any bigger with kickoff already scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and ESPN College GameDay set to appear, the Buckeyes will hold a 2002 National Championship Team Reunion Celebration, more than 20 years after defeating No. 1 Miami to claim the program’s seventh national title.
The athletic department unveiled Tuesday which promotions will be featured in the Buckeyes’ first four games, including Ohio State’s Athletics Hall of Fame celebration against Arkansas State Sept. 10. The alumni band also will appear against Toledo Sept. 17, and Ohio State encourages fans to “Wear Black” against Wisconsin Sept. 24, according to the release.
Ohio State revealed Wednesday that its annual homecoming game will be Oct. 1 against Rutgers. The Ohio Stadium 100 Year Anniversary Celebration will also coincide with the Buckeyes’ meeting against the Scarlet Knights to wrap their five-game, season-opening home stand.
Fans are encouraged to “Scarlet the ‘Shoe” when Iowa visits Ohio State for the first time since 2013 come Oct. 22, according to the release.
Promotions and game themes for the Buckeyes’ home matchups against Indiana Nov. 12 and Michigan Nov. 26 will be announced soon, according to the release.
