The Rutgers Scarlet Knights (8-8, 4-4 Big Ten) defeated the No. 7 Ohio State Buckeyes (14-5, 4-4 Big Ten) 2-1 thanks to two goals from Rutgers forward Kara Heck.
The Buckeyes and the Scarlet Knights both started slowly, as each team struggled to move the ball offensively in the first quarter with just four total shots being taken on goal.
It wasn’t until under five minutes left of the first half that the Scarlet Knights found the back of the goal with a score by Heck, assisted by forward Sophie Kuiper.
Just moments into the third quarter, Rutgers struck again with another goal by Heck, that was assisted by midfielder Guillermina Causarano to put the Scarlet Knights ahead 2-0.
Despite the quick score to start the half, the Buckeyes responded with a goal just forty seconds later by forward Makenna Webster, assisted by forward Lindsey Roberts.
But unfortunately for the Buckeyes, their first goal was their last, with the Scarlet Knights holding strong for the remainder of the game to secure the 2-1 victory over Ohio State.
