Three of Ohio State’s best players have been nationally recognized for their on-field performances.
Buckeye Seth McLaughlin is the winner of the 2024 Rimington Trophy, an award given to the nation’s best center.
McLaughlin, who transferred from Alabama before the season, has been sidelined since Ohio State’s win against Northwestern and is out for the remainder of the year with a torn Achilles tendon that he suffered during practice on Nov. 19.
McLaughlin and safety Caleb Downs have each been named first-team Walter Camp All-Americans. The Walter Camp team is the first of the Big Five All-America teams to be announced, as well as the nation’s oldest.
Downs, also a transfer from the Crimson Tide, joined the Buckeyes ahead of the 2024 season after legendary Alabama head coach Nick Saban retired following the 2023 season.
Downs has accumulated 62 total tackles and seven tackles for a loss thus far in 2024, as well as a punt return touchdown Nov. 23 against Indiana.
Wide receiver Jeremiah Smith was named a second-team Walter Camp All-American.
Smith, in his first collegiate season, broke all three of former Ohio State wide receiver Cris Carter’s receiving records by a freshman: receiving yards, receiving touchdowns and receptions.
