INDIANAPOLIS — Ohio State running back J.K. Dobbins etched his name in the history book, setting the program record for most rushing yards by a freshman.
Dobbins broke the record on a 77-yard carry in the second quarter of the Big Ten championship game against Wisconsin to give him 1,274 yards. That rush was the second-longest in the history of the game, behind an 81-yard rush by former Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott in the 2014 Big Ten Championship Game against Wisconsin.
Maurice Clarett previously held the record with 1,237 yards.
Dobbins became the fourth freshman running back with 1,000 rushing yards against Michigan State. Clarett, Robert Smith and redshirt sophomore Mike Weber are the only other players to accomplish the milestone for the Buckeyes.
