Two Ohio State sorority chapters have been sanctioned, this time by the governing body Panhellenic Association and not the university’s Office of Student Life.
Alpha Phi and Pi Beta Phi are the latest sororities to receive sanctions, joining Delta Gamma, which was placed on cease and desist last month by the university.
PHA president Cara Palusak confirmed it was PHA, the governing council that oversees 18 sororities at Ohio State, that made the decision to take disciplinary action against the chapters.
Neither the length or severity of the sanctions on either chapter are known at this time.
PHA, like the Interfraternity Council, or IFC, is made up of students from the campus Greek community and overseen by an adviser in Ohio State’s Sorority and Fraternity Life.
The sanctions placed on Alpha Phi and Pi Beta Phi are the first known punishments given by PHA and not directly from the university this academic year. As such, the reasons for the sanction do not have to be made public, nor does the outcome or lifting of the sanction.
PHA is meant to serve as a liaison between Ohio State administration and the sorority chapters on campus, according to its website.
Palusak said the association “is continuing to work with the chapters as a unified community throughout this process.”
