CLEVELAND — Ohio State junior Myles Martin was pinned by Penn State’s Bo Nickal in the 184-pound finals Saturday evening at the NCAA wrestling championships in Cleveland.
Martin earned a takedown to start the championship match, but Nickal responded with a roll through and quickly pinned the Ohio State junior. The match clinched a points championship for Penn State.
Martin’s loss upended his attempt to win a second title after finishing first at the NCAA national championships as a freshman in 2016. He was named All-American for the third time on Friday. Martin also has placed as a Big Ten finalist in the past two seasons. Martin and Nickal have now wrestled nine times, with Nickal winning on seven occasions.
