A slew of searches for positions at Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center were announced in a Thursday Board of Trustees meeting as being in the beginning stages, the most notable being the search for an executive director of the James Cancer Hospital.
The former COO and director of the James, Jeff Walker, left the hospital in late February for City of Hope National Medical Center in California, joining another prominent Wexner doctor, Michael Caligiuri.
The Board’s Talent and Compensation Committee approved two personnel decisions in about four minutes after its doors remained shut for an hour-and-a-half executive session preceding the votes.
The committee approved a contract extension for head football coach Urban Meyer that will last through the 2022 season and approved the reappointment of Mark Larmore, the vice president and CFO of the Wexner Medical Center, through 2021.
Appointed to his position in 2015 by former medical center CEO Sheldon Retchin, Larmore oversees the multi-billion dollar budget for the university’s sprawling hospital system.
Also announced during the public portion of the session were updates to “key critical searches” for dean and director positions at the Mansfield and Lima campuses. The Board said each position has been narrowed to final candidates with campus interviews scheduled to finish by the end of this week.
The search for senior vice president of research was announced as being underway. The committee for the search is set to review the backgrounds of candidates Sunday and interviews planned to occur on April 20-21.
Additionally, the search for the Dean of the College of Education and Human Ecology also was announced to have been narrowed to eight candidates. They will be invited to airport interviews to be completed by the end of the week.
The full Board will meet Friday to approve the agenda items.
