Opinion pieces
Opinion pieces must be grounded in verifiable facts, not contain hateful speech or contain deliberate misinformation. Submissions should be fewer than 700 words and come from someone affiliated or with an interest in the university. Opinion pieces submitted to The Lantern may not have been published by any other media. Pieces must include the author’s full name as anonymous pieces will not be considered. Affiliation with the university, financial interests and any association to the piece’s subject should also be disclosed.
The Lantern strives to include a variety of perspectives but cannot promise every piece will be published. Our team will read submissions as quickly as possible and respond if we are interested in publishing the piece. We reserve the right to edit opinion pieces for brevity, clarity or accuracy, but any changes will be approved by the author prior to publication.
Most opinion pieces are unsolicited, but The Lantern may reach out to people who might have an interesting perspective on a certain piece of news or event.
Please submit opinion pieces to [email protected] as a .pdf or .docx with a phone number attached.
