I recently paid a visit to the diversity Web site link listed on the Younkin Success Center’s website for OSU, and found that it was a big joke and a far fetch from reality. It seems to have been fabricated by individuals overwhelmed with their own agenda of political correction within the university scene.

In particular, the shallow and not so diverse offerings displayed in the ethnicity/nationality subsections strongly indicate to me that anyone of a background originating from Europe is strongly deterred from, and not welcome to participate or engage in any form of activities on campus that may strengthen the knowledge and understanding of their ethnic and cultural roots. No need for any history lectures, OK?

I know what the U.S. is all about and who was persecuted, raped, screwed, etc. However, is it a crime to happen to be white, and even, God forbid, to have a penis (in other words, to be male)? I am very proud of who I am. I am not only white though.

More specifically, I am of Ukrainian descent on both sides of my family. When I look at the list of student organizations on your website, it caters excessively to black and Asian students.

What in the world happened to all of the different ethnic European student organizations? Have they all been eradicated in the name of political correctness? Diversity should be synonymous with all kinds of people, not with those who claim the most historical implications of victimhood, or better yet, the “victimized superiority complex.”

So if I happen to be of some descent originating in Europe, then that means I am not allowed to have a student organization devoted to my ethnic background? I was not alive, 50, 100 or 300 years ago. I was born in 1976. I am part of Generation X. Whoever is responsible for this Web site should exercise better judgment and not discriminate because of what some radical politically correct person may have dictated.

Let’s just remember, political correctness does not necessarily mean proper. To misrepresent the student population at OSU to me is sort of a crime. True, minority populations on campus need to be equally represented in order to be considered with everyone else; not over-represented in order to accomplish that task. That is foolish and just perpetuates discrimination and racist attitudes from all kinds of people, especially those who are not of European descent.
