Starting off the season with an injury would be devastating for most athletes, but Ohio State setter Jen Boleyn was able to overcome her injury and continue to lead her team to victory.Although the senior from Dubuque, Iowa was side-lined with an ankle injury earlier in the season and was forced to miss several matches, Boleyn was able to return to her starting position as setter. In Boleyn’s first year as starting setter, she earned All-Big Ten and all district honors by leading the nation in assists per game (15.45) and setting the single season school record for assists (1,591).While on the court, Boleyn has the responsibility of stepping up and leading the team.’Jen is in a position that certainly would classify her as a team leader,’ said head coach Jim Stone. ‘The setter touches every second ball, her position mandates her to. She’s the quarterback on our team.’Off the court, Boleyn is very analytical and very intelligent, said head coach Jim Stone.’Jen’s a very bright kid, she’s in the College of Dentistry and has the capabilities of figuring out things for herself,’ said Stone.Boleyn’s effort this season has not gone unnoticed by her teammates either.’During matches, if things are rough, she gives you confidence,’ said senior outside hitter Sherri Helman. ‘She’s smart about the game and creates a positive atmosphere for everyone.’Boleyn realizes that it will be difficult to repeat her 1995-96 success with the graduation of key players, Tricia Stragliotto and Jenny Jackson, but is becoming more confident in her play.’This year I’m less worried about my skill and how well I’m going to set and I’m more worried about the team and running the offense,’ said setter Jen Boleyn. The 14-3 Lady Buckeyes are eager to continue OSU’s winning tradition. The Buckeyes have won three Big Ten titles and have made seven consecutive NCAA tournament appearances since 1989. Boleyn also hopes to continue this tradition.’My main goal is to finish as high as we can in the Big Ten and to become a better team,’ said Boleyn. The Lady Buckeyes return home this week to face the Penn State Nittany Lions. The match will be played tonight at 7 p.m. at St. John Arena.
