Ohio State’s student-run newspaper The Lantern won best college daily newspaper in Ohio for 2013, awarded by the Society of Professional Journalists’ Ohio chapters.
Reporters for The Lantern also won three of the four $500 scholarships awarded in the college division of the 2013 Ohio’s Best Journalism Competition, which is held by the SPJ chapters in Cincinnati, Central Ohio and Cleveland.

Ally Marotti and Kristen Mitchell came in second in best college news writing with their 11-part political series, written during Fall Semester 2012 about the U.S. presidential race between President Barack Obama and Republican candidate Mitt Romney.
The Lantern also won best college daily newspaper in Ohio for 2011, but no winner was chosen for the category in 2012. The paper has won the Ohio Newspaper Association’s award for general excellence in the Ohio Collegiate Newspaper competition three years running.
