A traffic accident on West 17th Avenue Tuesday involving a Campus Area Bus Service vehicle is currently under investigation by Ohio State University Police.
The CABS bus driver, a student, did not receive a citation for the crash and is still driving, OSU spokeswoman for Administration and Planning Lindsay Komlanc said in a Wednesday email.
The driver of the other motor vehicle, however, was determined to be at fault and was cited for failure to obey marked lanes of travel as well as for operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license, Komlanc said.
No injuries were reported, Komlanc said. The bus involved in the accident wasn’t damaged and is still in service.
Investigation into the crash, however, continues.
“Transportation & Traffic Management has a thorough review process,” Komlanc said. “This process includes a review and understanding of the facts presented in the traffic crash investigation (being conducted by the Ohio State University Division of Police), as well as a review of any other relevant records.”
University Police and Columbus Division of Police representatives said Wednesday their respective divisions did not have police records or reports of the incident.
LaKia Baldwin, a fourth-year in psychology, witnessed the accident.
“(The driver) pulled around the bus into the other lane. There weren’t any cars coming, so there was no reason for (the driver) to get back over so quickly. The bus didn’t have enough time to stop,” Baldwin said.
Erica Wingate, a first-year in pharmaceutical sciences, also witnessed the crash.
“(The person driving the car) drove over the double yellow lines to get around the bus,” she said. “The bus hit the car and the car came up over the sidewalk and knocked over the crossing sign.”
