Less than 24 hours before Ohio State junior defensive lineman Noah Spence was set to make his season debut after a three-game suspension, his status with the team could be in question once again.
According to an OSU statement, Spence will not be eligible for the Buckeyes’ Saturday matchup with Kent State due to an OSU and Big Ten rules violation. The statement said the school plans to work with Spence and his family to resolve the matter.
Multiple reports that have come out Friday afternoon said Spence failed a second drug test, leading to OSU’s decision.
The Harrisburg, Pa., native originally found himself in trouble after testing positive for the drug ecstasy prior to OSU’s Orange Bowl matchup with Clemson in January. He was suspended for that game as well as the first two games of the 2014 season. Spence was expected to make his return against Kent State.
The Columbus Dispatch’s Tim May tweeted that Spence is “out indefinitely after second violation of Ohio State and Big Ten rules,” from his account @TIM_MAYsports.
Spence did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday afternoon.
The Buckeyes’ game against the Golden Flashes is set for noon at Ohio Stadium.
