The Ohio State men’s basketball team is going dancing despite a quarterfinal loss in the Big Ten Tournament.
The Buckeyes (23-10, 11-7) were given the 10 seed in the West Region for the NCAA Tournament on Sunday night, drawing a matchup with seven-seed Virginia Commonwealth University set for Thursday in Portland, Ore.
VCU holds a 26-9 record heading into the NCAA Tournament to go with a 12-6 mark in Atlantic 10 play. The Rams topped Dayton, 71-65, on Sunday to win their conference tournament championship.
OSU dropped out of the conference tournament on Friday with a 76-67 loss to Michigan State in Chicago after topping Minnesota in the second round Thursday. But that loss didn’t deter the selection committee as the Buckeyes picked up their seventh straight NCAA bid.
The Buckeyes lost in their first game of the 2014 tournament, against Dayton in Buffalo. They had made it to the Elite Eight in 2013 and the Final Four in 2012.
Big Ten champion Wisconsin is the top seed in the West Region, while Arizona, Baylor and North Carolina round out the top four spots. If OSU tops VCU, it will take on the winner of the matchup between two-seed Arizona and 15-seed Texas Southern on Saturday.
