The national media was scrambling to cover a series of high profile stories at Ohio State and the Lantern was in thick of it.
Stories involving former head coach Urban Meyer and his handling of alleged domestic abuse involving an assistant coach, and the revelation and subsequent investigation of a doctor accused of sexually abusing former athletes drew scrutiny, and reporters, from across the country. Though the summer season means the Lantern operates largely on a skeleton staff of new editors, they were up to the task.
The Columbia Journalism Review published an in-depth feature commending the recent professional reporting of The Lantern and the extra effort put in to covering these controversial and complicated issues. Faculty advisor, Spencer Hunt, commented in the story on the student reporters’ willingness to pursue stories and prepare for professional careers.
