Buckeye Village will soon be gone and with it, Ohio State’s only affordable housing complex for students with families and graduate students. With no plans for the construction of new affordable housing, these students and many more like them are left floating in a sea of high rent and apartments that are not suited for young children.
All students were impacted by COVID-19 to some degree, but international students faced some big decisions in the face of the pandemic. Some decided to take classes remotely while others opted to take a break from education altogether, decreasing international student enrollment at Ohio State.
Students typically enter college around the age of 18 but for some, party culture cannot wait until they come of drinking age. Fake IDs, described by one student as ‘very versatile social tools,’ allow them to circumvent drinking laws, entering bars and purchasing alcohol before they turn 21.
“No One Was Watching” is a look at the women’s rowing team and its head coach who was found to have performed psychotherapy on student-athletes and made derogatory comments about mental health.
More than 218,000 calls to 911 were made from the off-campus area over the past five years. The most common calls were for property crimes, but the rare, more violent crimes can lead to rumors.
Health insurance is a headache, so much so that students may avoid health care on campus entirely. Two Ohio State students opted to travel home to California and Washington, D.C. for costly care to save a few thousand dollars per year on the student health insurance fee.
